Testing Facilities

The “Magic-box” is an experimental building located at the Technical University of Madrid and included in the European Smart Grid Laboratories Inventory. This project was built in 2006, but it has been renovated through the years. Magic box is a residential self-sufficient building model that includes a BIPV system in the roof. Nowadays, the project consist of a Living Lab for investigation, demonstration and testing of BIPV systems, management of PV produced energy in addition to self-consumption and self-sufficiency. This project was built for the Solar Decathlon international competition. Magic box was the first European desing to entry in this contest and has been honoured internationally as a reference for BIPV projects.
